ABOUT SENATOR GLADYS A. ROBINSON
Senator Gladys A. Robinson, Deputy Minority Leader of the North Carolina Senate, has been a dedicated advocate for the people of North Carolina, specifically Guilford County, for many years. She has 40 years of experience in health and human services. For 30 years, Senator Robinson has and continues to serve as Executive Director for Piedmont Health Services and Sickle Cell Agency; a community health center that addresses health conditions such as sickle cell, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, breast cancer, prostate cancer prevention programs and education/prevention programs. Senator Robinson’s political goal is to improve the economy, education, and healthcare.
Senator Robinson is a 1971 graduate of Bennett College. She has earned both a Masters in Education and Counseling and a PhD in Leadership Studies from North Carolina A&T State University. Additionally, she has certifications in Nonprofit Management and is a graduate of the UCLA/Johnson and Johnson Health Care Executives Program. The Senator is a consultant for Nonprofits in Organizational and Board Development, a professional grant writer, and federal grant reviewer.
Senator Robinson has served on numerous boards and commissions including the senate's Appropriations on Health and Human Services, Appropriations/Base Budget, Commerce, Education/Higher Education, Health Care, Transportation. Just since 2000, she has served on the UNC Board of Governors; was appointed by Gov. Perdue to the NC Minority Health Advisory Council; and served as a member of the Board of Directors of the NC Legislative Black Caucus Foundation. Her involvement in the community includes being a member of Leadership Greensboro, Class of 1993; Evans-Blount Health Center Board; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Bennett College Alumnae Assoc., Vice President & founding board for the Guilford Community Aids Partnership; Democratic Women of Guilford; Lillian’s List; and is a life member of the PTA and NAACP.
